Rubber/Tire Industry, Standard Curing Press

CURING PRESS

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems had produced mechanical press driven by electric motor in the past; however, recent models are mostly operated by oil hydraulic power.
Once green tire is set on the green tire holder located in front of the press, curing process from green tire loading into the tire mold, through curing and stripping of cured tire from the mold, to unloading of cured tire onto a takeaway conveyor behind the press is performed fully automatically.

Types of curing presses

Major types of oil hydraulic curing presses are the following 3 types.

Type Construction
Column type The tie-rods (columns) located around the mold holds the opening force of the mold caused by the internal pressure of the tire, and guide frame guides opening and closing of the mold.
Column guide type Columns (tie-rods) guide the opening & closing motions of mold instead of guide frame of column type press as well as holding the opening force of the mold caused by the internal pressure of tire. Individual operation of different tires at left & right cavities is possible.
Frame type The press frame of closed construction holds the opening force of the mold caused by internal pressure inside the tire, and guides opening & closing motions of mold. Individual operation of different tires at left & right cavities is possible.

Tire curing press/system Feature
Moving mold type curing press The upper or lower mold moves horizontally and receives a green tire at loading cycle. It has an advantage of reduced height of the curing press.
Electrically driven curing press Major press movements, opening/closing and horizontal moving back/forward of lower mold are driven by electric servo motor through ball screw mechanism. For this reason, high machine accuracy is achieved resulting in production of high quality tire.
In addition, the press achieves shorter cycle time, and its height can be reduced as low as possible.
Earth-mover tire curing system Super giant tire utilized at mining site, sized 4 meters or bigger, is vulcanized with this curing system, which is a kind of container device for segmental mold. Outer ring of the container device is moved up and down synchronously by oil hydraulic cylinders located around and below the outer ring.
Curing system with self-locking curing unit Mold opening force due to internal pressure inside tire is held by curing unit itself, and therefore press construction members do not need to hold such force. For this reason, the rigidity of the machine can be reduced to the minimum. In addition, automatic changing system of tire mold and center mechanism is applied.
